I see your point, Mimi. And can't disagree. But it's hard to know what is the generalization - that most people want companionship and loyalty and family, or that most people want the freedom to do their own thing most of the time, with occasional input from others.

I guess too we should establish a definition of 'need'. And on that front I don't think there is any 'need'. There may be desire or want or preference. But it isn't need. In my opinion at least.
And Tinkerbell, I agree we need social contact. I spend all day socially contacting people. At the end of the day I just want to go home and tune out in peace at home! I like 'me' time. Lot's of it.
