I was with an important client the other day, as soon as he greeted me he grabbed my hand and walked around holding on tight. I knew that this was a) normal for him and b) a good sign of trust and friendship, but boy did it make me feel uncomfortable. I kept trying to analyse why I was feeling so uncomfortable while we walked, kept telling myself that this is simply customary and that I should not even be registering it as a problem, and I knew that he probably wasn't putting any thought in to the matter at all. But every time he let go of my hand to gesture or open a door I would try and avoid him grabbing it again (to no avail). Anyway this is the first time this has occurred during my time here in Qatar, so it was a bit of a shock. I will be better prepared mentally next time.
