I had pretty much the same kinda school life as you did and only learned all this in like the last ten years. When I was a kid, beating up kids by teachers were quite the norm, and there were cases of kids been maimed and even killed at the hands of abusive teachers, Audubillah! Glad to know times are changing...well at least for the most part except for cases like mentioned in the OP!
