Speeding car kills school student in Bin Omran area
An Egyptian higher secondary school student was killed by a speeding car when he was crossing the Ahmed bin Ali Street near his school in Bin Omran area on Monday, says a report in the local daily Arrayah.
The deceased was going with a group of his classmates to attend special coaching classes in the school at 5pm when he met his fatal end.
The principal of the school said in a statement to the daily that traffic on the Ahmed bin Ali Street is always heavy and students are constantly advised to use the underground pedestrian crossing and avoid the main road. “But the unhygienic condition of the underground crossing puts them off,” he said.
The municipal authorities had been repeatedly informed and requested to clean it up but no action has been taken so far. As many as 1,000 students studying in two schools in the area take the risk of crossing the road in spite of heavy vehicular traffic.
“We also requested the Supreme Council for Education to advise the Public Works Authority to put up iron railings on both sides of the street as has been done on Grand Hamad Street in order to prevent people from crossing the road,” said the principal.
