Western countries have been meddling in other country's affairs for decades. It hasn't always (or often) ended well.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I wanted to point out that before this becomes a 'you are jealous of our wealth' or 'you are just scared of us because we are Muslim' western hate fest, we need to consider that other Arab countries, like Libya but also Syria etc are hardly supportive of Qatar's actions of late.
But to get back to the thread, it's one thing for Qatar to buy silent stakes in banks, property portfolios and other 'investments'. But when you do start purchasing cultural icons, like football teams, historic buildings etc, it does eat away at national pride.
Buying all the toys in the sandpit doesn't usually win you friends with the other kids.
