I was once a college instructor and we need to abide by the syllabus and lesson plan that we make which are submitted to our supervisors/Dean for monitoring the quality of teaching being implemented.
But I agree with you that parents have a greater role n monitoring their children and if in their judgment, too much pressure are place on their children by the school curriculum, then they can always have a dialogue with the school.

MAybe the problem is in the child itself.
