I moved from UAE to Doha last year and I can only agree with you. Life is quite different (a bit dull) over here and I am not only talking about accommodation. I moved in a brand new compound and still have to get used to rats. Traffic is pure horror, make sure you live close to work and school. Be prepared for lots of paperwork. Be prepared that your employer needs to issue an exit permit every time you want to leave the country. Once settled, it merely becomes impossible to change jobs since the employer will most likely not issue an no objection letter. I would recommend to wait for 2-3 years and hope that the laws loosen up it so the country becomes attractive for Westerners.
