If you can find a large vacant lot nearby it's great for dog walking. However, I take my dog out very early (0500 hrs ish) and in areas closer by for midday and afternoons/evenings. PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG - if you don't do so already. It was aggravating in my home country (my dog's sh!t doesn't stink or stick to your shoes) and it adds to the relatively small pool of areas where dogs are not banned here.
If your dog is not already trained to come on command, WORK ON IT CONSTANTLY - there are a lot of people who don't like or are afraid of dogs - I don't inflict brocolli on guests who don't like it, I don't inflict my dog on people who are afraid or don't like them - be a good dog owner citizen.
