Take a look on here to get an idea of the prices of second hand cars - be aware that a car that is older may not be eligible for comprehensive insurance.

You're about right on the insurance costs, that's similar to what I pay for comprehensive on a 5 year old car (I think that will switch to third party this year - I find out next month).

Unless you have the cash you may not qualify for a car loan for several months as usually they require 3 months of bank statements to prove your salary - you could try bringing UK bank statements but I don't know if that would work. With children you also want to buy a vehicle that is safe - get one with as many airbags as possible - AND CHECK IT AT THE DEALER to make sure there's been no "mistakes" in what the seller has told you.

Petrol is cheap I drive a Honda Accord and it costs me about 50 -55 QAR to fill it (when the low petrol light comes on) that's about GBP10
