well, weird surnames are indeed a block for many people to get married or in a relationship... In the end, it all comes down to both of them... If a man is having a surname like 'F***er' and he's immensely proud of it, there's gonna be a clash between him and his partner to hassle abt dropping the name off (esp if the Girl's name is "Ima" :P)

the best thing in this case, is for the girl to keep her maiden   surname.. as for the children, they can opt to take their father's first name or their mother's surname. As it is, the guy has already lived with a weird surname all his  life- why make things difficult for the rest?
