I think some other people here mistaken gossip to chit chat - gossip is idle talk or rumor especially about the private affairs of others (and they are often maliscious) which i think @akoparinto is not good :) while, chitchat is a different case it could be a light informal conversation., which i see nothing wrong about. (unless it is maliscious)

Also i agree with others, why bother on other's life ?  and @xedesmarie - i dont think i am one of those most women who loves to gossip ;)
