At the end of the day, the gays in Qatar have it much better than the labourers anyway. Qatar rarely arrests men for homosexual activity (and from what I've seen and heard about, is widespread). Yet it wouldn't hesitate to arrest an Indian or Filipino for having straight sex.
At least the UK press is willing to mention the plight of the Asian workers who are being exploited in Qatar. Underpaid and overworked Indians, Nepalese, Bangladeshis could only dream of having the rights and paypackets of British construction workers.
In any case, it is the weather that will be the biggest stumbling block for Qatar. That and the stench of corruption that led to Qatari Mohammed Bin Hamam being banned by FIFA for life.
The Qataris better get some good PR staff on a retainer to try and get the public behind their bid, before public pressure sees it stripped of the event and awarded to another country.
