Qatar is not the center of the universe, and the world is not focussed on Qatar. Most Americans I spoke to did not even know US put forward a bid, let alone that Qatar won. Qatar will undergo some media scrutiny and while some of it may be caused by jealousy, the vast majority of it will not.
For the record, I think that Qatar hosting the WC will be a force of change for the better.
