Sorry and i am not trying to move this to a religious topic, but what we have been told by the prophet.

"A woman entered Hell for mistreating a cat, she locked it , didn't feed it, and even she didn't let her eat from the what it can find out there."

and this is a cat not a human being.
these people have done a very great sin and they will be punished hardly if they didn't ask forgiveness from God,
even if they escaped in this life, but for how many years ?5 or 10 , 20 or even 50, the punishment will come after all.
But we hope that we can see earth justice for this case, to be an example for others not to do
