I'm sure that all realise deep down (or if you are a knowlegable expat, not so deep down) that this bid like the Olympic bid previously is nothing other than yet another attempt at enhancing the image of Qatar on the global platform as a global player and global force and the authorities can't be blamed for that. They want Qatar to be taken seriously and this type of venture is an excellent way of saying to the world "hey, look at us - we're for real" and not just seen a "one trick (Gas) pony" - there is nothing lost in bidding for these global events - the cost is negligable and the impact high but the reality is that the pride of the nation takes a kicking when as happened a few months ago, the authorites dismiss the bid with the nonchalence associated with dismissing a troublesome fly. Unfortunately for Qatar as most of us know, history will repeat itself in December when Australia are awarded the competition in 2022 by a country mile and Qatar looks for the next global event to bid for ................
