Personally even I do not accept "democratic" Israel's way of doing things. But the fact is, they are surrounded by hostile neighbours.
And when a person(or a nation) is looking at the barrel of a gun pointing at him, his only thought would be to get out of that fight ALIVE, survival at any cost, rules be damned. [excuse my language :)]
As for the govt, The political fatcats of any country do not care about the general population. Netanyahu, Erdogan...all these politicians think about is how to create a "drama", how to pull in the votes so they can stay in power, even at the cost of their citizens lives.
