I never shop on a Friday, it's bloody mayhem & as for family days, I think this is a good thing. Don't forget you are in a Muslim country. Yes, Qatar is fairly liberal compared to Saudi Arabia for example but they haven't let all their values slip like Dubai, for example. It's their country, they make the rules, we agree to abide by those rules when we come here.
If the family days weren't so manic I'd go shopping. It's rather refreshing not to get stared and leered at by gaggles of men. No, I'm not a short skirt wearing kind of gal, I'm in my 40s and dress very modestly when shopping. I miss the abaya from my time in Saudi to be honest. I hate the skin crawling feeling when I'm letched at.
*edited to say, ANY female from 12 to 100 gets stared at...so no I don't think I'm 'all that'.......
