I first came across them touting their books years ago and didn't know what they were - I read and found out and found it offensive to say the least.

I agree people should read and find out....but it should be done openly and not in this clandestine fashion.

Which is exactly how FANAR give out their literature about Islam. They give you a nice bag with books and simply invite you to read and maybe come and learn more.
I think that is a polite way - and respect to FANAR.
