A Qatari female nurse was seriously injured yesterday in a fire caused by a power generator explosion at the School Health Centre in the Old Ghanim area.
Two cars in the parking lot of the centre were gutted in the blaze.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire followed a loud explosion at 1.30pm.
They said the cars caught fire as the explosion spilled a large amount of oil from the generator.
The nurse was admitted to Hamad General Hospital with serious burns.
Civil Defence personnel rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control before it could spread to the centre’s other power generator or the premises.

The head of the Kahramaa Control and Command Centre, Hassan al-Mohannadi, said they were investigating the cause of the fire.
“We have to check first the date the generator entered service,” al-Mohannadi said.
One of the staff at the School Health Centre said she noticed “electricity fluctuations” at the centre since the beginning of the day.
The nurse was injured when she was passing by the room housing the generators.
“We were not able to recognise our colleague when she rushed towards us after the fire because of the severe injuries she sustained,” the staff member said.
