Khalid is trying to convince himself that there is a defined set of moral values that every single person in the world must share or be persecuted for not sharing. He doesn't seem to quite grasp that morals & values are defined by culture and that while some cultures may share common ancestry they've all evolved to value different things, and in this day with so many people exposed to so many cultures, no two people value the same thing.
