reminds me of the time one of our family friends won the 1kg gold prize at the Dubai Shopping Festival years ago.

that man is the biggest miser i have heard of in my life.in our culture, when a girl comes of age,it is customary to buy her gold.and it so happened that his daughter had come of age and he just HAD to buy her something.after much ado, he bought her a little something for just AED.50/- just for the heck of it.and he got a raffle coupon that he gave his daughter.he wasn't really thinking when he did that.the girl filled out her name in the coupon and put it in the raffle box.

on the day of the draw,as luck would have it,they won and he started getting congratulatory messages from people.initially thinking that they were all trying to pull a fast one on him,he ignored them.the fact sunk in when the officials from the jewellery called up and asked him to come over with the other portion of the coupon to collect his 1kg gold bar.

now comes the glitch.he didn't know where he'd kept the coupon!the whole family turned the house upside down searching for it and after 3 hours of searching, they found it all crumpled up in a polythene shopping bag they'd kept aside with hordes of other such bags that they usually used to throw out kitchen waste!!! :-o

all's well that ends well....but i'm sure that guy never took a raffle draw lightly after that incident :-D
