Yes its to do with personality, rather than gender.

I'm a woman driver myself and I do know how to maintain my car very well...change tyres, check oil etc.. But I will gladly step aside if a knight in shining armour comes to my help. Thats just the quixotic side of the woman in me. And I ain't ashamed to say it :))
