Smoking involves harming oneself since it is proven beyond doubt it is bad for health and causes cancer. It also involves harming others - passive smoking and also bad odor emitting from the mouth of the smoker. It involves wastage of money too.

In view of the harm caused by tobacco, growing, trading in and smoking of tobacco are judged to be haram. The Prophet sallalah'hualai'hiwassalam is reported to have said, "Do not harm yourselves or others". Furthermore, tobacco is unwholesome and God says in the Quran that the Prophet sallalah'hualai'hiwassalam saidd 'enjoins upon them that which is good and pure and forbids them that which is unwholesome'.
