Only the drawback is you cannot update the phone..but if you can wait for 2-3weeks after releasing the new firmware software unlock is always available throughout internet in my personal opinion being an iphone user and seller for last 3years this is really the fun of using iphone..
Regarding the warranty of the phones..iphone Made strong so phone will only be damaged if you put it down water or hit somewhere this case even apple will not provide you warranty..
Apart from that if you want to install third party software somehow you have to jailbreak the phone this will also VOID the warranty
