I stayed in many places and SA is the worst (I am South African) Its not that I dont miss the nature aspect of SA, but i would rather be safe.

In Saudi, I could leave my car outside running with the aircon on, go do shopping, and my car would still be there. I could go into any area without worrying about getting robbed, stabbed, or shot just for my cellphone.

In SA crime has affected me and my family in the following ways:

My sister stays in a high security complex in one of the richest areas in SA. A compound with mutli-million dollar houses. The compound has 24 hour security at the entrance, and roaming throughout, to enter you get fingerprinted, they get called, and you are allowed acces. The compound has got 8ft walls around it, with electrified razor wire on top. Their house inside the compound has 12ft fencing around it. They got robbed 3 times, and the last time she was still inside her room, while they were clearing the house out. She now sleeps with a 9mm under her bed.
She also got hi-jacked once.

My car got broken into, and radio stolen. The car was parked inside a security compound, inside a locked garage.

My brothers house got broken into and all electrical items stolen. He now has steel gates inside his house that needs to be locked before they go to sleep. The house has an alarm system, and security bars in front of all windows (like a jail)

Doesnt matter where you drive, the golden rule is...keep your doors locked, windows closed, and dont let any valuables lie around in a visible area in your car.

Walking around in malls..wear little or no jewelry, keep your wallet in your front pockets.

There are 50 murders every day, 25% unemployment and if you include under 25years, then the unemployment is 48%.(CNN)

Roads are deteriating, nice farmtowns, has become desolated, police are corrupt, the President(s) are ex-terrorists (tried to blow up JHB), and the President - Zuma - has a credo "One Farmer, One Bullet!", ..

I can go on and on and on....but if you dont value your life, then go to SA, stay there, and see the real truth. Vacations are wonderfull, because you never really find out whats the reallity. Live there, ...only if I have no other choice.

Qatar is not perfect, and sometimes even downright boring, but I'll rather be bored, and "play" in the sand, than sitting without work due to reversed apartheid, and waiting around to become another victim of crime.
