Both in Lebanon and Pakistan, the US has played a clandestine role in ensuring its preferred leaders are in power. Did you know that the CIA set up the pakistani intelligence service, ISI? This was back in the 60's after General Yahya came to power. It was via the ISI the CIA channelled money, weapons and training to the so called afghan 'mujahideen' that fought americas war against the soviets as admitted by the former national security advisor to Carter.
As for Lebanon, everyone knows that it is a land full of spies. American involvement there goes a long way back. The sectarian differences are fuelled, supported and in many cases agitated by foreign powers vying for control. It seems america wishes to change the political landscape in lebanon because the current political set up does not suit the current times...
