But the statistics go directly against you here.

13 years ago 'only' 11.7% of marriages were consanguineous. By 2007, according to the article, this number had climbed to a staggering 43% of marriages.

There may be some families who are more open to the idea of choosing a spouse from a different part of the gene (wading) pool, but as far as trends go, it is becoming increasingly popular to marry a close relative.
