I think it is just because it is forbidden by legal and traditional rules and because you are not doing this as your truly belief.
You should check what mean fasting for Christians (orthodox): 45 days of no animal based meals (including eggs, milk, cheese etc.) and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with only water. And there is no law to force you to do this: only the one who want will do it. And, believe it or not, there are plenty of followers.
I thought that the Muslims have a much stronger belief that other religions. It seem I was hardly wrong. And I am really sorry to discover this.
