Yes. PMP certification will make a difference in your professional and personal life as well. It has to be practiced in reality, otherwise it'll be just another stamped paper.

I'm assuming you have some level of managerial experience or at least have practiced the whole lifecycle of a project from initiating, planning, executing, monitoring to closing, else it would be extremely difficult to comprehend and apply PM's methodology, let alone the exam and the latter is challenging.

I'm afraid if you're thinking that PM material only provides ABCs, that either you haven't gone over all the chapters, or you're probably reading some other material..:)
