I was caught Drunk Driving when old traffic rules were in-force. Consequences.
1. Immediate detention (1 day & 1 night in my case) in a detention centre until you were produced before Public Proseecuter who will decide whether to bail you or not. (in my case he bailed me on QR 2000 cash payment.)
2. My case was heared after 10 months of the incident. (I travelled 4 times out of Qatar during this period).
3. I was advised by the company lawyer and I didn't attend 1st hearing and sentenced to 1 month jail and QR 4000 fine in absntia.
4. Immediately lodged the appeal on the same day of sentence and hearing date was fixed on the same day.
Travel Ban was imposed.
5. Lawyer wrote to the court requesting all court documents relevent to the case and received copies of the same.
6. Lawyer studied the case and prepared an appeal in Arabic and instructed me to submit it to the 3 judges on the hearing day during my hearing.
7. They asked whether I am guilty of the offence and I admitted it and handed over my lawyer's appeal letter.
8. Instructed me to wait for the deceion after closure of the day's proceedings.
9. Court official announced that No Jail sentence and QR 4000 fine but jail suspend for 1 year.
It didn't cost me a single riyal as our company lawyer did it for as a help.
Thank all the Gods in this world and it has been 3 years now I never touched the strearing wheel of a car after even a single drink.
