I've got a Ford Explorer - a 2003 model myself - so can speak from experience I've also owned a lot of different cars for more than 30yrs.
The Ford explorer is just great value for money & getting a used one & maintaining it isn't a bad idea at all. It's the biggest selling 4x4 in USA I think about 3 million sold. They are still manufacturing them & parts are fully available.
I like - great engine V6 4 ltrs
Split front & rear Aircon systems
Built on a full truck chassis
Don't like no CD player in the radio!
Repairs so far: New tie rods - improved handling is great.
Mine had only done 60K kms when I bought it - so I can't speak about high Kms models.
