hey NMK -- Just wanted to be sure that you know that after the IPO in April, Vodafone Qatar is 77% Qatari owned. We're not a "foreign" company, but a local one that benefits from having ties to the largest mobile operator in the world.
In regards to philanthropy, we setup the Vodafone Foundation in Qatar in March. This allows us to leverage the Vodafone Group Foundation which was established in 2002, and since then has raised over £125 million (QR 625 million). Vodafone has strict guidelines with disciplines and structures in place ensuring complete transparency for where money raised has gone.
Vodafone Group Foundation is proud to have brought the benefits of mobile to some of the world's most pressing problems. Examples include partnering with the United Nations to support the World Food Programme's emergency ICT response and funding an award winning disease surveillance programme- now used to track diseases in 22 African countries.
Like other Vodafone Foundations, Vodafone Qatar will also establish the "World of Difference" Programme. This is a really innovative programme that pays people a year's salary to take time off work to focus their time fully on making a positive impact in their community.
We've only been in the market for a short time. Look for many more announcements from us in regards to the Vodafone Foundation. Of course, we welcome ideas from the community at-large. And, look for us in future Reach Out to Asia activities in the coming months.
