And change takes time and effort, one step at a time. Obama is paving the way - just started, so we hope for the best. Education is the key to opening minds to see the bigger picture. Managing a country that is as large as the USA is extremely difficult. People who are not educated (whether academic or otherwise) can be easily misled by charismatic (but self interested) leaders. Obama is charismatic but doesn't appear to be looking out only for himself - which is great, IMHO.
