Novita - It's the one thing you can't do anything about. No matter how careful you drive,a rear-end collision is the one thing you can't guard against. Here if you leave a gap so you can move forward when you see the problem heading towards you in the rear-vision mirror, someone will drive across into it ( whether they want to be in that lane or not).
Given that you can't do anything - good question is "do you want to even look in the rear-view mirror?"
