Who else has stopped at the pedestrian crossing on the corniche when the light is red, only to be beeped and flashed by drivers behind you?

Pedestrian crossings seem to be viewed as 'optional' red lights. I've frequently seen plenty of people just drive right through the red light, even if people are still midway through crossing.
