The Qatar Veterinary Surgery (www.dohavets.com, behind Barbie on Al Rayyan) has a lot of cats and kittens for adoption at the moment (there are some darling puppies and dogs too). Unfortunately a number of pet owners are intimidated by the thought of bringing their pets back home, and so leave them behind. There are a few in particular that I am trying to sneak into my own home ; )
I've been involved with the Veterinary Surgery since I arrived in Qatar in September 2007. They've helped me with all of the stray kittens that somehow found my garden, with vaccinations and support as I've tried to rehome them. I can't recommend them highly enough as they are really attentive and kind, gentle with the animals and always there with a kind shoulder for those going through pet trauma.
Their number is 436-7187, if you are really interested in adopting they are a great place to go (as is QAWS- but your first stop after should be a vets just to get your new family member checked out).
