This is a teacher's best reward. God knows it's not the salary. Successful teacher's get into the profession because they know that they can make a difference.
I am so proud to say that I have been invited to several college graduation ceremonies; weddings; and baby showers. Some of my former students are lawyers, doctors, artists, actors and then there are some that are great mechanics and AC repair guys!
For me, it seemed like when times were tough (I taught high school in the 3rd largest urban school district in the US) I would ask, "What am I doing here?" It was when I doubted my skills as an effective teacher, that inevitably a former student would email or drop by my class room to say hello and thank me for having been their teacher.

We are all teachers--we don't have to be in a classroom to make a difference in someone's life.
