In Thailand, there are reputed to be some temples with statues with similar "powers". But not advertised openly, only by word of mouth by the locals. The one I heard about was in Chiengmai where I went for a holiday 2 years ago.
Whatever it is, gotta take what they say with a pinch of salt (or a bucket load of it, depending...)
Agree that for SOME, it could be all in the mind. Amazing what the mind is capable of, if only people use more of it. But also true for SOME - a genuine medical / physiological problem, as opposed to a psychological one.
