Ok. Just read wiki link above ...

Just my thoughts, without the benefit of reading further into his works and other articles by other authors:-

1) From England, spent formative years in South Africa, French mother, teen years in Canada - meaning pretty good exposure to different cultures.

2) Father building contractor - unlikely to be spoiled rich kid - probably like most of us working people - would have learned quite a bit from experience and hardships.

3) B.Sc. in psychology from Birkbeck College at the University of London in 1970, and, in 1973, received his Ph.D. from the London School of Economics for work on altruism in children.

- Well qualified. (And I'm not just saying that because my qualification is from the same Uni). The quality of British education was actually superior in the past, more so in the 1970s. Currently, fallen into some disrepute due to economic considerations

4) Continued his work at the University of Oxford until 1974 - for him to get in, in the first place, must have high IQ. While it's probably for personal reasons that he left for Canada after 1974 but it could also be a lack of EQ that saw his tenure at Oxford for only 1 year (after PhD in 1973).

Not really a quack... So, what exactly has he written about Altruism? I am Altruistic but I'm not white.

"Genetic similarity theory

heritable component in altruism ... gst - "states that individuals tend to be more altruistic to individuals who are genetically similar to themselves (kin selection), and less altruistic, and sometimes outwardly hostile to individuals who are less genetically similar."

- Very wrong as far as I am concerned. I am altruistic to people of any race who are less fortunate than me... err... and maybe I should qualify that to add ... those who are genuinely in need and who are humble, who don't lie to get as much from me as possible.

- Having said that, actually generally his statement is true by observation. While it's the current trend against forming cliques and thus holding on to narrow mindedness, it does happen very often that "birds of a feather flock together" - comfortable to have shared or similar values, experiences, backgrounds, etc.

r/K selection theory

Rushton's book Race, Evolution, and Behavior (1995) ... "purports to show that East Asians and their descendants average a larger brain size, greater intelligence, more sexual restraint, slower rates of maturation, and greater law abidingness and social organization than do Europeans and their descendants, who average higher scores on these dimensions than Africans and their descendants."

i) "average a larger brain size, greater intelligence"

- Where's the substantiation for this?
I'm from East Asia and I think the majority are daft - because they are poor and do not have the opportunities to be properly educated.

The education system of rote learning to pass exams to get high grades also simply churns out people who don't use their God-given brains to think.

Actually, with this lack of opportunity comes the drive to improve themselves. That attitude is what makes the difference, from the West who have the opportunities given to them. East Asians are not smarter, they have learned to be very resourceful.

Religious beliefs keeps many of them ethical in their resourcefulness. This is not to say that all or the majority are ethical - I have no comment on that.

"more sexual restraint, slower rates of maturation, and greater law abidingness and social organization"

- This has nothing to do with race but religious beliefs - whether it be Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, etc.

But at the end of the day, his motivation and funding trashes his credibility though... And his methodology and research under duress are also questionable. When people are forced to do anything, they will most probably lie out of spite, so the results of whatever survey would not be totally reliable. Too many limitations to his research to be credible. Needs to change approach to do damage control. If he's not bothered, we're also not bothered about what he has to say.
