Comparing itself is fine but the reaction to what one finds after that comparison is what makes the difference. Many people take it negatively, whine and do nothing to change their circumstances for the better or they do something for their own benefit but which harms others. If one takes it proactively, then one would "evolve and reach higher horizons" as you said.

There's a saying that "Attitude determines Altitude" and indeed it does.

As for feeling superior - yes, I agree that it's the wrong thing .. but there is a very fine line between arrogance and self confidence.

When building up people's confidences, you tell them to stick to their opinions as that is their perspective of what is right in their particular circumstances and no one can take that away from them. But that usually gets taken too literally and they cross over into being egoistical. Always a fine line.

But the truly confident will be able to see the bigger picture and adapt without losing themselves. Only the ones who are not confident will cause all the trouble because of their lack and fear.

And yes, everyone is at different stages in their lives. Everyone is a "work in progress" so like someone said, live and let live. Some people may be "narrow minded", "dumb", etc to others but they just have not learned what others have...yet.
