The US openly gives millions in aid and loans to Israel and, as far as I'm aware, all the loans are, as a matter of course, forgiven.
We can discuss the ethics and merits of this all day long, but the point I want to make is that the amount of high profile support the US gives to Israel goes a long way towards legitimizing Israeli actions.
If Arab countries hide their support for their cause de jour, while the US and western countries announce it in a press release, it only serves to further highlight that giving money to one country/group could be percieved as being subversive, while giving it to another is seen as being legitimate.
I'm not here to say that doing one thing is wrong and doing another thing is right, but it seems as though Arab states are behaving as though what they are doing IS wrong, and they are trying to hide the fact that they are doing it.
