Xena: Warrior Princess, stick to your sword. People who criticise you for being "picky" could be just jealous of your freedom to choose. I had a few married lady friends reluctantly admit that to me before.
Look at it this way, if you don't find the qualities that you look for in a man, why settle for anything less? Once you have made a decision, you have to live with it. What I mean is not an endless list of 100 conditions. But you and I know what we look for, so I say we should be true to ourselves and take responsibility for our actions eg. not abdicating responsibility just because we're lonely sometimes.
And to my critics too, I don't always think that someone better will come along when I'm in a relationship with someone. If I decide that there is a good possibility with one particular guy, then that man will be my focus. However, he must have, at the outset, shown me that he has the qualities that I'm looking for. If I choose to accept a particular man, however bad he turns out later, I will deal with it. But God help me ... and him.
LotusMoon - "men are intimidated by strong smart beautiful women"
- Precisely. But having said that, some are also blindly heroic as kamikaze pilots. Fine balance.
"But I also think we all kind of put up a guard subconciously after dealing with love that hasnt worked out."
- Guard of prudence, yes. I'm aware of it but don't let it get too obstructive. I use it as a barrier (amongst others) to stay at arm's length to observe first.
/Now, I know what some of you are thinking.. I observe too long... lol! Nope, I don't need to. *wink*
One more thing - "internet seems to be the 'new' way to socialize" socialize, yes - for busy people ... but difficult to tell whether the person is lying or not, unless you get to meet them and talk to them face to face. They will still probably lie but you can pick it out eventually.
