Well, my company management is keeping our people (and not just citizens) despite the difficulties because it's our culture to do so. Call it social responsibility, if you will - the new-ish buzz word in the management field but it's been practiced since time immemorial in MY. Pros and cons to every situation, as always. Nothing is ever perfect.

Having said that, business is business and "cash flow is king", foreign companies cannot stay on indefinitely and contribute their skills to help build up Qatar if they don't have CF

IMHO, qatarization is a great idea as locals need to be trained and thus, need not rely too much on outsiders and be at their mercy, in the sense of being taken for a ride by unscrupulous people... and there are many. There are many who are genuine and truly wishing to help but many others are out to make a quick buck at anybody else's expense.

I may be criticized for having an idealistic view of Qatar as I just got here a few months ago and I'm not as jaded as some. But I hold the view I stated as I dislike "being held over the barrel of a gun" in any (non-war) situation and being at anyone's mercy, other than God.
/If it's war, it cannot be helped.
