a mazda 3 well equipped in canada would be about 23K CAD before tax, here it was about 17K with no tax.
you'll find almost everything here. be careful though because resale values may differ.
japanese always do well, although toyota service is pure rubbish here. GM cars seem to be improving although they will still depreciate quickly (and probably not a good bet now that the company is at risk of going belly up).
european cars are expensive to maintain.
looking at resale, cost, price, service, everything - look at nissan, and if service means nothing to you then toyota (their cars are good and resale value here is excellent).
