You can normally visit on Friday, although you might want to miss prayer time. There is a caretaker with a key and you need to find him to let you in. Check out the well when you are inside. There is a display also, but it's not very good. The road there is excellent and virtually devoid of traffic. There are other forts in the area but you need a four wheel drive to get them. You might want to head on up the coast - there are some picturesque boats in Al Ruweis, and a nice harbour, but that's about it if you are stuck to the roads.
