I can survive (and did) on QR600 per month for food. But no savings. It can be done but extremely tight budget and no fun expenses. Everything's very expensive here. I still haven't gotten used to it. Anything I miss from home, I wait till I get home for 2 weeks, go crazy then come back here and behave.
Hardship allowance - MD's right.
Basically, the hardship of leaving your country and parking self in this land. Usually a percentage, most companies I know of (not here though) - 15% of basic salary, depending on how far you had to go away from home, be away from your family, etc. Some have up to 30% but I've never seen more .. but then again, I'm a small fry from a 3rd world country. Cheap-ish labour.
