by the way.. i think this is one of the qatari rules as well, which i guess has something to do with the culture and religion: woman cannot approach the man.
When I first time came to qatar for my vacation, once I walked on the Corniche towards the souks, but was not sure how far the souk is. It was a middle of the day and basically there was no one around to ask. Finally I saw the man walking towards me, dressed in the pakistani style clothes (well, at that time I didn't know it was pakistani)...and I already opened my mouth to ask my question, but he stopped me by showing with his hand that he is not going to talk to me, and he passed by.. I was a bit disappointed. 5-10 minutes later i saw another man, dressed with the suit, he turned to be a syrian. So i asked him my question, he literally looked around and answered: "actually it's not right that you approach the man, but ok, i will help you"... then i knew why the first man even didn't dare to stop and listen to me..:)
... as Oryx said.. i can never see myself even in the nightmare offering myself in that ugly way to some stranger, in front of his friends, and I even don't know what does he think about me..rrrrrr...must be so embarrassing!!
