You don't pay tax if you ship to New York but New York does have a sales tax if you order from there. Different states have different sales taxes and when you shop from Amazon (US) you have to look at where it is actually coming from. If it is being shipped by Amazon directly then there is no tax added. A lot of things you order from Amazon (US) are being sold through Amazon but for a third party(business). It can be a little confusing if you are not used to it. You can always put something in your cart then go to check out. It will show you if it has tax and what the shipping will be. Some items will even have free shipping. Then you can either continue the transaction or stop it and remove the item from your cart. I have actually found a few things on Amazon UK that were such a difference in price I ordered them and had them shipped to my address in the states where it was then forwarded to me here. Sometimes the price is better the other way around and sometimes they are the same. I have some DVDs that have seen more of the world than I have. I hope that helps a little. Have a great day!
