Actually, they are one of the better employers in this country - a fact you might not appreciate, having only worked for QP in Qatar.
In truth, most employers here seem to do absolutely anything to mislead you and nudge any agreed terms into some insane direction. Many do not give people any kind of salary increments, even after five years; either you accept it, fight it constantly with your superiors, or go through all the arrangements to move to another country - they have no obligation to grant you release to move to another employer. There are a lot of people working very long hours or under extreme pressure to do so. There are companies that do not pay staff salaries for up to six months at a time, and this is for people who have arranged their own accommodation and bought their own car. As a result, some of them are getting expelled from their housing for non-payment of rents. They make complaints to the Labour Department, who issue a warning to the company, and that's it. Need I go on?
We are talking about senior professionals from all parts of the world (yes, including the West).
Even the labour law is full of holes; if you read it carefully, almost all clauses have an exception for 'senior staff' or 'emergency'.(In office work, the word 'emergency' is open to interpretation.) And being senior staff, you can forget about sensible working hours and annual leave as written in your contract. If they decide that the performance of the company could suffer without your presence, you will stay put; they will not issue the exit visa.

In short, no rights whatsoever. You are property.
