Well, its very interesting reading all those who argue for and against this. But let me tell you one thing, dear Gents and Ladies; I am sure that all this is not interesting for the poor workers who got baton charged and whipped. I see a lot of of people who had posted above are trying to be "Brown Sahibs". They have forgotten that these are also people from their own countries. These poor guys are away from their wives, children, girl friends, etc. and they undergo all the insults, inhuman living conditions and the scorching sun in order to build a better future for them and their loved ones. Also, they have contributed immensely towards the development of this country through their hardwork. Yes, they do it for a salary, but if they are not here who will build the roads, maintain the cleanliness of the cities, build buildings, houses so that all of us enjoy luxurious living.
They stare at women??? of course, those who speak as if they are squeeky clean will also do that if they are away from their wives/girlfriends for two years...
The problem is that some people tend to forget who they are and where they come from. Mostly, becuase of people like this that all try to bulldoze over people from South Asia. Once I was in line to get my passport stamped at the Dubai Airport and did not notice that the Officer has beckoned me to come to him. He was sarcastic and asked me whether I was sleeping for which I retorted "I don't sleep while standing, but do you?", which left him speechless. He would have thought that since I'm a South Asian, that I will take all the crap and be silent. Well, he got the shock of his life, I guess. We should speak up so that others will know that being from less privileged countries doesn't mean that we are pushovers.
If someone does something wrong, let the law of the land take charge. That doesn't mean that all should be branded as wrongdoers.
